Residential Treatment Overview

Magnolia Creek - living room space

Working through an eating disorder can be extremely challenging and can greatly affect an adult’s mental health, especially when daily life becomes overwhelming. When you, your loved one, or your client is ready to tackle an eating disorder, it’s important to find a trusted residential treatment facility. At Magnolia Creek, we offer adult residential treatment for women, ages 18 and older, to help them get their lives back.

In our adult residential eating disorder treatment program, each client receives an intensive level of supervision and support. By living on-site, clients have access to continuous care and constant support. As they improve and strengthen their commitment to recovery by meeting their treatment goals, they gain more autonomy. During adult residential treatment, clients participate in various types of eating disorder therapies and programs, including our unique Care Through Culinaryâ„¢ program. Our experienced staff designs an individualized treatment plan for each client that meets their eating disorder and mental health disorder treatment needs.

Adult Eating Disorder Treatment Programming

In adult residential treatment, we help each client establish a healthy relationship with food while also treating any co-occurring mental illness. The benefits of residential treatment at our treatment center include the following:
Another benefit is that during residential treatment, each client is surrounded by other individuals with eating disorders who understand exactly what they’re going through. Some clients can even find the support and guidance that’s been missing in their life in residential treatment at Magnolia Creek. When clients feel encouraged and nurtured, they’re in a better frame of mind to participate in their treatment and start the healing process.

Individualized and Comprehensive Treatment Plans

At Magnolia Creek, we create an individualized treatment plan for each client that meets their psychological, medical, nutritional, spiritual, and relational needs. Our comprehensive treatment plans incorporate individual therapy, group therapy, and experiential or recreational therapy. These eating disorder treatment therapies vary from day-to-day and from woman-to-woman. Some of the treatment options we offer as part of our individualized treatment plans includes the following:
Each type of individual and group therapy we offer provides different benefits and gives clients variety while helping them establish healthy routines.

Care Through CulinaryTM

Nourishing the Mind, Body, & Soul

At Magnolia Creek, rebuilding a healthy relationship with food is a vital part of eating disorder recovery. Our Care Through Culinaryâ„¢ program guides clients in their journey by:

  • Teaching them to plan, shop for, and prepare meals
  • Fostering supportive communities during shared meals
  • Encouraging active exploration of culinary options
  • Providing therapeutic environments that promote behavior change and help overcome food-related fears
  • Supporting clients as they reconnect with food, their bodies, and their overall well-being

What's the Difference Between Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Residential Treatment?

Our treatment center offers three programs: two residential treatment programs (an adult residential treatment program and a teen/adolescent residential treatment program) as well as an adult partial hospitalization program (PHP). Typically, clients start in a residential treatment program and then step down into the partial hospitalization program. However, in some cases, clients may begin their treatment in the partial hospitalization program. The schedule for our partial hospitalization program is like that in our residential treatment programs, with the exception that clients spend evenings and nights at The Cottage.

Why Choose Residential Treatment?

A variety of factors contributes to the development of eating disorders, including societal pressures, neurobiology, trauma histories, family dynamics, high levels of stress, and more. Regardless of the eating disorder type, controlling weight can be one motivator for eating disorders and another can be maintaining control of something that no one else can. Therefore, those who have struggled for a long time tend to do the best in residential treatment programs that provide a high level of support and structure. Additionally, those who don’t have the support they need at home or family members who encourage unhealthy behaviors should start their recovery process with a residential treatment program.

While outpatient treatment (like a partial hospitalization program) often includes the same therapies and similar care to residential treatment, it doesn’t provide the accountability these individuals need. Additionally, individuals with co-occurring disorders (e.g., mental health disorders like anxiety, depression, etc.) often benefit from adult residential treatment. Dual diagnosis therapy in residential treatment programs addresses more than one mental health disorder at a time, giving individuals the chance to recover more fully.
Having access to around-the-clock accountability and support in residential treatment like what we offer at Magnolia Creek is invaluable when starting out on the journey to a healthy relationship with food. It’s also important have easy access to medical care in case of an emergency. Working with a residential treatment facility like Magnolia Creek can make the process of recovery easier and more comfortable
