National Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2019

We’ve come a long way when it comes to public perception of eating disorders. Many people now know that eating disorders are legitimate mental illnesses, not just fad diets or moral failings. However, there’s still a long way yet to go. Too many women don’t get the support they need to overcome these challenges. That’s where National Eating Disorders Awareness Week comes into play.

What Is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week?

The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) is the organization behind National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. NEDA works to help people with eating disorders as well as their families. They know that these misunderstood conditions can be hard to handle, whether you’re experiencing them yourself or watching a loved one struggle. NEDA provides people with support and recovery communities, helps to fund eating disorder research, and gives people the resources they need to achieve recovery.

Another significant portion of NEDA’s mission is to make people more aware of eating disorders, their signs, and their dangers. They host NEDA Walk events around the country to bring survivors together, raise money for research, and spread the word that recovery is possible. Additionally, they put on National Eating Disorders Awareness Week each year. This year, NEDAwareness Week is February 25 to March 3. The goal is to spark a national conversation to end the stigma surrounding eating disorders.

During this awareness week, NEDA hosts events around the country to educate people about eating disorders, including risk factors, effects, and treatment options. These events aim to bring local communities together, allowing people to build a local support network.

What Is the Focus of NEDAwareness Week for 2019?

The theme of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2019 is “come as you are.” This theme promotes inclusivity, spreading the message that all experiences with eating disorders are valid. No matter where you are in your journey toward recovery, or even if you haven’t started at all, there’s a place for you in the broader community.

“Come as you are” means that who you are is enough. In other words, you don’t need to be better or healthier to seek the help that you deserve.
